Tower Estate Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2004 Bookmark this Blog/Forum Post
The fruit used in this wine was sourced from Rising Vineyard in the Yarra Valley and uses the Dijon clone, 114 and 115. I like the philosophy behind the wines at Tower Estate which, put simply, is to take the best fruit from the region where each variety does best. To this end I have samples of Coonawarra cabernet, Barossa and Hunter shiraz, Yarra Valley and Tasmanian pinot etc..I am sure you get...

De Bortoli Yarra Valley Reserve Chardonnay 2004 Bookmark this Blog/Forum Post
I think I am going to include lots of technical detail on how this wine is made. It’s important to gain a better understanding of the style. If your eyes start to glaze over just skip to the bottom of the review and look at the score instead. Vineyard Fruit ...

De Bortoli Yarra Valley Reserve Pinot Noir 2004 Bookmark this Blog/Forum Post
Ah the mysteries of wine (or humans). I reviewed this wine a while ago with a not so favourable outcome and dead set it really looks like a different wine tonight. We tasted this at the same time as the excellent 2004 Reserve Syrah and gave that wine a whopping 95 points. On the first tasting this wine looked like a pretty sound but uninteresting Yarra pinot…and now..well it is just mighty. One...

Phi Sauvignon 2006 Bookmark this Blog/Forum Post
This swishly packaged sauvignon blanc is a joint venture between Stephen Sheldermine and winemaker Steve Webber. The fruit for this particular wine comes from Stephen’s Lusatia Park vineyard in the Yarra Valley. The vineyard itself is situated at Woori Yallock in the South-east hills of the region and was planted in 1985…..for trainspotters the clone...

Phi Pinot Noir 2005 Bookmark this Blog/Forum Post
Another cracking wine from the team of Stephen Sheldermine and Steve Webber from Phi wines in the Yarra Valley. The fruit for this wine also comes from the Lusatia vineyard and the clone for you clone-rangers is MV6. Hand picked, hand sorted and destemmed and an indigenous fermentation in open 6 tonne fermentors this baby...

Wantirna Estate “Amelia” Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 1998 Bookmark this Blog/Forum Post
Now this was an odd wine. This tasting showed some pretty mint, almost like Vietnamese mint (and by this I mean a darker, more savoury and pungent type of mint), with farmy and bucolic overtones. The palate seems youthful and unevolved, with some cedar and cigar box, but also a ...

Yering Station Pinot Noir 2004 Bookmark this Blog/Forum Post
Quite amazing how much good well priced pinot there is about these days. Just a few years ago there really was a dearth of them (and isn’t that just a great word). Aromas of cherry/raspberry, leaf mulch, spicy cinnamon oak and a hint of brown sugar. On the palate it ...

Yering Station ED Rose 2006 Bookmark this Blog/Forum Post
A highly anticipated release this one - at least by me anyway. The 2005 vintage was a brilliant wine. Sad to say this one is (or at least this bottle) not nearly so good. This picture here is of the 2005 which is nothing like the colour of this vintage. ...
