I Hate Sauvignon Blanc
Whether its grassy and green-beany from New Zealand or boring California, I'll pass. I do, however, have an affinity for whites from Bordeaux, where a dose of Semillion gives it a great natural richness and the Sauv Blanc keeps it fresh and lively. I am really impressed with the 2006 "Le G" de Chateau Guiraud . It's 70% Sauv Blanc and 30% Semillion . A very elegant wine that would...
2004 Chateau Calabre (Montravel, France)
This is a white Sauvignon Blanc (60%) - Semillion (40%) blend from an outlying region near Bordeaux. Very light brassy-gold color. Initially the nose featured grassy herbs, chalk, and gooseberries (which comes from the Sauvignon Blanc side of the family), but after it had been opened an hour or so, the lanolin scent of Semillion started to feel its oats. Large-framed with big, straightforward...
Mouton Cadet (White) 2006 wine review by (PB)
This lightly golden Bordeaux smells like a wonderful Riesling or Gewürztraminer on first sniff and then evolves quickly to a Sauvignon Blanc blend. Peaches and grassy notes are very nice on the swirl with flowery bouquet. This wine is 40% S. Blanc 50% Semillion and 10% Muscadelle and it tastes precisely like what it is. This wine comes in at $7.50 and is food friendly, and okay as an aperitif...

Chateau St. Jean Fume Blanc 2005 wine review by (PB)
Pale clear with slight green touch on the pour with gentle but finessed bouquet that is extraordinary--some citrus and other fruit which is baffling. The palate is fresh and rather classic Sauvignon Blanc though a tad weak in structure. Reading the label I realized why I was baffled by the bouquet. I thought this was 100% Sauvignon blanc but is blended with Semillion which explains the nice...
La Manta Rayada Moscatel Semillon 2007
We had a bottle of La Manta Rayada Moscatel Semillon 2007, best described as a random white that was in the fridge rather than a carefully chosen selection for the evening. It was a curious wine. It had a pale lemon colour, and reasonable legs. Unusually for wine, it smelled ...

Lyngrove Chenin Blanc Chardonnay 2007
We recently had a really good Semillion Chardonnay . I was delighted, a bit confused I admit, but really happy. I decided I'd reassess my view of lame Chardonnay blends, give them another go, forget my past disappointments and step forward happily into a new world of taste. I tried a Lyngrove Chenin Blanc Chardonnay 2007. My old predjudices came flooding back, bland, characterless, dull wine...

The Regent Semillon Chardonnay 2007
Semillon does not fill my heart with joy. It tends to signal watered down, bulked up, thinned out and other uninspiring phrases. Aussie chardonnay on the other hand makes me think big - fruity fruit, toasty toast, oaky oak and spicy spice, alcohol galore - lots of everything like a ...
