Longhop Old Vines Grenache 2005 Bookmark this Blog/Forum Post
Grenache time. This comes from a single vineyard with 50 year old vines. Handpicked, 25% whole bunch open ferment, basket pressed then aged for 12 months in seasoned American and French oak hogsheads and barriques. Remarkable smelling wine. Intense raspberry/kirsch, florals, cocoa, baked earth and spice. On the palate flavours of raspberry sauce, cherry, flowers, leather and bitter chocolate...

I had a Rhone rose this week. I was in the mood for something pink and fruity so picked a reasonably priced one. It was certainly pink, with just a hint of orange lurking within. It smelled clean but not as fresh as I’d hope from a 2005. There was ...

I had a delightful Chateauneuf du Pape at the weekend, a 2001 from Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe. The vineyard stands on the site of one of France’s first telegraph stations, which is quite sweet. I do hope it doesn’t have a mobile phone mast instead now. It’s clear and bright ...

La Ferme Julien, Rosé, Côtes du Ventoux, France 2005 ($5) What better wine to enjoy after a day on the beach but rosé? I picked up this blend at Trader Joe’s after remembering a recommendation from Quaffability (ironically for another rose ). It is made from 50% Cinsault, 40% Grenache and 10% Syrah grown in France’s Rhone Valley. The wine is a beautiful shade of salmon/ruby with lean aromas...

Bodegas Borsao, “Red Wine”, Campo de Borja 2005 Bookmark this Blog/Forum Post
This is the second Bodegas Borsao wine I’ve blogged in a week and I have to say that I really like what this winery produces. This wine is a blend of 75% Garnacha (Grenache) and 25% Tempranillo. I would be surprised if it saw any oak aging from it’s flavor profile. Bodegas Borsao , “Red Wine”, Campo de Borja 2005 ($8) - Medium ruby in color with aromas of bing cherry, strawberry and cloves...
