Yarra Valley Alternative Varieties
The next Regional Wine Showcase to held in Fed square Melbourne will be the Yarra Valley region. Although this region is dominated by the use of classic varieties Pinot Noir and Chardonnay bcked up ... alternative varieties.
In fact when I recently updated my Yarra Valley page I noted that over 40 ... white varieties and a couple with Italian varieties.

New varieties in New wineries
Each year I like to do a quick tally of which varieties are being used by Wineries designated as "new" by James Halliday in his Wine Companion.
Some "new" wineries are not new. They may have undegone a name change after a change of ownership; they may have finally got around to submitting wine after a few years in operation, or lots of other things might have happened.
But the "new" wineries...
13 grape varieties....to pick!
We still use the 13 different grape varieties allowed in Chateauneuf du Pape for making our Chateauneuf du Pape, Chateau de Beaucastel Red . The harvest are crucial at this time because we pick each variety separately (when we think it's ready) and we do the vinification also separately. Spanish varieties star in SoCal
My sources in Pomona, Calif., report that, unlike in prior years, results of the annual Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Competition will not be immediately released. Instead, they will be unveiled in mid-June during a special event.
