Saturday night was a quiet one, enjoying a glass or two of wine whilst playing the fiendishly entertaining Lord of the Rings . We had Paul Zinck’s Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Eichberg 2004, chilled to within an inch of its life. It’s pale and bright with reasonable legs. It smells divine - rich and sweet with so much lychee it could almost be an ad for Gewurztraminer. There’s blossom too...

Fiona and I suffered West Wing withdrawal bravely for three days, before I snapped and purchased the box set of the second series (£29.99 from Borders - and on ebay these are selling for £25, so I think I'll recoup most of this outlay).
