    Subject: Almansa grape varieties

I would like to add some more information to the Appellation of Almansa in Spain.

I only read that Almansa is showing great results with Monastrell and a little bit of tempranillo. But 80% of all the grapes harvested in Almansa are made of the grape garnacha tintorera, blend of Alicante Bouschet and I believe garnacha, that has adapted itself to the vineyards trhat lie at an altitude that sometimes reahces 1000 meters. The garnacha tintorera is a grape with a coloures flesh, and if cultivited right can give a lot of fruit, great structure and of course colour, lot of colour. On of the best examples known outside of Spain is a wine Higueruela (90 point june 2005 parker) made by Pedro Sarrion. The winery is called cooperativa de Santa Quiteria but the winery is also known as Bodegas Tintoralba.Higueruela
