Karl Von Senden and Marcia Josephs visit with Katie Murphy, wine ambassador from Alexander Valley Vineyards. Among the large array of wines they produce is the ever popular Sin Zin. But there is much more!! Karl talks about Albarino, a great Spanish white wine for your summertime enjoyment. Karl and Brian taste and rate 2004 Domaine de la Cadet Chardonnay, Bonnie Doone Syrah, and 2006 Venteux Raucous Blend. Marcia shares Alexander Valley Vineyard's resident chef's recipe for Cilantro Pesto Prawns paired with AVV Estate Chardonnay.

Megan McGrath, winemaker, Lucas and Lewellen 08/01/08

Karl Von Senden and Marcia Josephs talk with Megan McGrath, a young winemaker with impressive credentials. She's with Lucas and Lewellen Vineyards, located in Santa Barbara County and making some impressive yet rather inexpensive wines. We taste four winners. Karl and Brian taste and rate 3 wines including a really good $20 Pinot Noir-an '06 Taft Street Pinot Noir. Ratings are also high for a Vankenburg Gewurztraminer and the 2004 Sunterra Meritage. Marcia's recipe, compliments of Lucas and Lewellen, is an Herb Crusted Grilled Lamb with Apricot Relish paired with a Lucas and Lewellen Petit Verdot. Cheers!

Delicious DeLoach Wines 07/25/08

A visit from Julia Vazquez, winemaker at DeLoach Vineyards in Sonoma County enlightens Karl Von Senden and Marcia Josephs about their lovely Chards and Pinots. DeLoach will be producing biodynamically farmed wines in the very near future. The wine word of the day is Cote Roti. Learn about the great wines from that region. Ever wonder where toasts came from and why? Karl shares some of the "saucier" toasts of the last decade. Brian Mahoney and Karl Von Senden, our sommelier taste and rate 3 wines: Gallo Family Vineyards Chardonnay, Francis Ford Coppolla Pinot Noir, and a Markham Cabernet Sauvignon. Marcia shares a DeLoach recipe, Bacon Roasted Salmon with Mushroom Sauce, served with a DeLoach Pinot Noir.

Alhona, Small Winery, Big Merlots 07/04/08

Karl Von Senden and Marcia Josephs talk with Rick Alhona, owner of Alhona Vineyards in the lovely Carmel Valley, just south of San Francisco. Rick's family owned winery makes some lovely Merlots worth tracking down. Learn about another varietal you may not be familiar with--Torrontes, a popular Argentinian wine. Karl and Brian taste and rate 3 BIG wines, an '05 Opolo Viognier from Paso Robles, an '04 Morgan Cote du Crow, a big red from Monterrey County, and an '04 Conn Creek Cabernet Saugivnon from Napa. Winners all! Marcia dives in and uses the bounty from the summer garden in a Baby Eggplant, Tomato and Basil Casserole with Parmesan Cheese. A great way to use the $100 a piece home-grown tomatoes! She pairs it with an Argentinian Torronte!

Food and Wine Magazine named Freeman one of the the top 30 Pinot Noirs in the country. Next, Karl talks about the charms of Petite Verdot. Then, learn why the "Judgement of Paris" turned the wine industry on its head. Karl and Brian taste and rate three wonderful reds, an '06 Cambria Pinot Noir, a Mitch Cosssentino Ol' Red, and an '06 Vertex Blend. Marcia's Chicken Marengo will rock your world. An American Owned Tucsan Winery 06/20/08

Tim Grace, Director of il Molina di Grace winery in Tuscany talks about the joys of owning a winery in Tuscany. We taste their outstanding wines and wonder if this American's soul isn't really Italian. Karl tempts us to try a Vouvray this summer. Chenin blanc by any other name... Karl and Brian taste and rate three winners, an '97 Brancott Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, an '06 Tablas Creek Cote de Tablas Blanc, and an '06 Ramsay North Coast Pinot Noir in the $18 range. Marcia's recipe is for a Salad Nicoise that she pairs with the '07 Brancott Marlborough Sauvignan Blanc.

A Walk on the Wild Side, Oak Knoll Winery 06/06/08

Greg Lint, Prez of Oak Knoll Winery joins Karl Von Senden and Marcia Josephs and wows them with his economically priced Oregon jewels! In addition to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Gris, Oak Knoll produces two unique wines--a red raspberry wine and a wine made from native American grapes. Wild stuff. The Wine Word is Jurancon, a lovely wine you don't see very often. Brian and Karl taste and rate an 2006 Arrowwood Cote du Luna Blanc, a Pascal Jolivet Sancerre, and an 2006 Flora Springs Chardonnay. Marcia shares a recipe with a Caribbean theme that she's making for Karl's bday bash-Jerked Pork Tenderloin.

TruVine Wine by the Barrel 05/30/08

John Burtner, Director and winemaker at TruVine Wine joins Karl and Marcia to explore a unique marketing concept--buy excellent wines for your own personal consumption by the barrel, or part of a barrel. Learn how this idea came about in Tempe, AZ-not exactly wine country. The buyer can be involved in the winemaking process and nurse "his" barrel start to finish. Karl talks about Brunellopoli, the big scandal in process with Brunello di Montelcino. Brian and Karl rate an 2006 Elyse Le Peche, and 2006 Marshall Family Vineyard Barry's Blend Pinot Noir, and and 2005 Wild Hurst Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon of $17. Marcia's recipe wasn't the hit she hoped it would be, but with a bit of tinkering she pulls it off.
